Since its debut in 2007, the Nissan Rogue has made an impact on the mid-size crossover SUV market. Combining versatility and reliability, the Rogue has shown itself to be one of the best mid-size crossovers on the market when it comes to getting the most for your money, and the 2016 edition sees some substantial upgrades and additions across all trim levels.

One of the most notable updates is the addition of a foot-activated tailgate, available on the Rogue SL trim. With the keyfob nearby, swipe your foot underneath and the tailgate will open.

Rogue’s New Technology

Apple users will be pleased with Nissan’s additions to the infotainment system. Both the Rogue SV with the Premium package and the Rogue SL will now have Siri Eyes Free functionality as standard equipment. This allows the driver to use a voice command button to activate the system, and then use the commands to operate the infotainment system or the linked iOS mobile device- essentially, allowing the use of your linked iPhone or iPod without ever having to look away from the road. For today’s connected driver, this allows them to use the full power of their smartphone without being distracted from the driving task.

Some modifications to existing systems have been made, changes you may not notice right off that bat but that will make the Rogue that much more enjoyable to drive. Rogue’s blind-spot warning system now uses radar instead of a camera for readings. This helps the system to get a better picture of the blind spots, with improved detection of objects and pedestrians. On the SL, the NissanConnect Services powered by SiriusXM will continue to be standard, but this year will come with more available applications.

Improved Safety Features

On the safety front, forward emergency braking is now standard on the top Rogue SL Premium trim. This system is the same as the one already in use in the Maxima sedan and Murano crossover, a system that has been met with resounding approval. Forward emergency braking detects objects and pedestrians ahead, and takes steps to prevent the collision, from audible and visual warnings up to emergency braking if driver action is not detected.

New Exterior Options

All of these new goodies inside of the Rogue also come with additional exterior options, including a new Magnetic Black exterior color. The Rogue S appearance package also gets body-colored outside mirrors with integrated turn signals, along with chrome door handles, to provide a little more of an up-market feel.

All of these new features are sure to continue to push the Rogue towards the top of the class. These new features are just icing on the cake, as the Rogue already has class-leading fuel economy and generous cargo space, both of which are major selling points in the crossover segment.
