2016-titan-xd

At Naples Nissan, we’ve always been pleased to bring you the latest in Nissan vehicle news, but it’s been a long time since we’ve seen a game-changer like the 2016 Nissan Titan XD is likely to be. Meant to hit the streets of Naples and Tampa in late 2015, it’s a whole new class of vehicle.

The first thing you’ll notice when you see the upcoming Titan XD is the full revamp of its exterior. Bigger, more upright, and brawnier than ever before, it’s a full-size, passenger-friendly pick-up truck, with low-end heavy-duty capabilities.

The power that will give the 2016 XD the capabilities to back up its looks comes from a Cummins 5.0-liter V8 Turbo Diesel, until now only available in brands coming out of Detroit. It gets attached to a heavy-duty 6-speed Aisin automatic transmission, which has been designed specifically for use in an XD with a diesel engine. When properly equipped, this provides the 2016 Titan XD with the capability to carry up to 2,000 pounds and tow up to 12,000 pounds. All the while, the XD is projected to get fuel economy that is better than an equally-capable gasoline engine.

The XD is built on an improved, fully-boxed ladder frame that provides rigidity, not to mention a longer wheelbase and added lateral bending. This is more like the engineering found in Nissan’s NV line of commercial vehicles, meant for heavy duty work and endurance. The frame is coupled with a heavy-duty suspension, featuring double wishbones with a stabilizer bar front suspension, and a rigid rear axle with leaf springs and twin-tube shock absorbers. This allows the XD to easily handle the terrible surfaces found on jobsites.

Also meant for heavy duty is the spray-lined bed with Utilitrak strap-down cargo system. The bed isn’t very hard to access, thanks to a tailgate designed for one-handed usage, as Nissan knows you can’t always put down what you’re carrying. The towing package is helped out by a number of different aids that are available – this includes Trailer Sway Control and Tow/Haul mode for control, along with the Trailer Light Check system for one-person trailer hook-up.

While the 2016 Titan XD will have a new, heavy-duty drivetrain and exterior, that doesn’t mean the interior has to stay workmanlike. The XD gains improved trim throughout the cabin, although bare-bones models will be available for work trucks. Power points abound, whether you are looking for 12-volt power, 120-volt power, or even a USB power point. Ergonomics have been improved as well, with switches grouped by function and how often Nissan expects you to need to use them. There is quite a bit of in-cabin storage as well, for gear that is too sensitive to store in the bed.

The XD will also have heavy-duty safety features available, because no one likes to be slowed down by accidents or repairs. RearView Monitor with Trailer Guides is available, as is Around View with Moving Object Detection. All of these systems improve the ability of the driver to see what is going on around them.

The Titan XD is expected to hit the streets in 2015, with the non-XD versions of the restyled Titan becoming available in 2016. You can be sure that, when they are released, your best bet to find the greatest variety of models in the southeastern Florida region will be at Naples Nissan.Located just off of Interstate 75, we are easy to reach from throughout the area.
