2015 Nissan Leaf, available at Naples Nissan

If you’re feeling like you are seeing a few more Nissan LEAF electric vehicles on the roads of Marco Island and Fort Myers this year, there’s a good reason for that. For the second straight year, the LEAF has broken the sales record for sales of a new electric car. Only this time, the LEAF didn’t just break it – you might say that it destroyed it.

Nissan LEAF Sets Annual U.S Electric Vehicle Sales Record

In 2013, the LEAF set a record for most new electric vehicles sold in the United States, selling 22,610 throughout the year. As of the end of October this year, there have already been 24,411 Nissan LEAFs sold in the United States – they’re blowing past the record, with two months left and the model selling at a consistent rate of roughly 2,500 units per month. Its next closest competitor, the Chevrolet Volt, is only selling around 2,000 units per month. Globally, the LEAF is the best-selling electric vehicle, with over 142,000 units sold worldwide. Over 64,000 of those sales are in the U.S., making it the most popular fully-electric vehicle in the country.

Naturally, we think the Nissan LEAF is an incredible vehicle, and we’re pleased to be able to offer it to residents of Tampa and the rest of southwestern Florida.

What makes the Nissan Leaf a great vehicle?
Inexpensive
Compared to high-tech offerings from BMW and Tesla, the LEAF’s starting MSRP of $29,010 is already fairly cheap. Add in federal tax savings, and it gets even cheaper.
Suitably Powerful
Earlier electric vehicles were pretty weak, and couldn’t keep up on the highways. With 107 horsepower at the ready, the LEAF is as comfortable on Interstate 75 as it is on the streets of Cape Coral.
Great Range
Where the Chevrolet Volt only gets 38 miles out of a charge and needs a back-up gasoline-powered engine to get more distance, the LEAF is purely electric powered and still has an average range of 84 miles.
Attractive Looks
Many early electric vehicles looked a bit different, due to the technology and design involved. The LEAF doesn’t look like a fad, it simply has clean, stylish lines with a measure of personality.
Great Options
Early electric vehicles were a bit sparse, to avoid accessories draining power too quickly and reducing range. Updated technology allows t
he LEAF to have all the amenities of a conventionally-powered vehicle, wit class=”list-group-item”hout reducing the range. This means equipment like a top-end Bose sound systems with seven speakers are available.
Quick Recharge
It only takes around five hours to go from empty to a full charge, and you don’t have to wait for the battery to be fully drained before plugging in either.

All of this has helped the Nissan LEAF to develop grassroots growth, with its ease of use leading customers to recommend this vehicle to their friends and neighbors. Their enthusiasm for these vehicles is rubbing off on folks around them. It is leading the charge for the acceptance of electric vehicles across the nation, helping to educate entire communities. Nissan doesn’t plan to sit on its laurels, either – the company is already working on an updated LEAF for 2017 that is expected to increase the range greatly, and is sure to keep the LEAF a top-seller for years to come.
